Qualifier (Comprehensive Examination)

As per IIT Bombay's PhD Rules, it is mandatory for the PhD scholars in IDC School of Design to clear a comprehensive exam before their "Confirmation of Registration of PhD".

The details of the comprehensive exam are as follows:

1. Timeline
   • Within the first two years of joining the PhD programme.
2. Minimum CPI
   • Minimum CPI of 7.5 in any courses of a total of 20 credits.
3. Qualifier Interview
   • There will be an assessment conducted by a 3-member committee appointed by the DPGC.
   • In case a student fails a qualifier assessment, he/she may be given an opportunity to do a second chance for the qualifier assessment, provided the second one is also completed within the first two years of joining the PhD programme.
4. Students failing to meet the above qualifier criteria will be asked to leave the program without any degree.
