In the late sixties, Industrial Design was just emerging as a profession in India. In 1969, The Industrial Design Centre was set up at IIT— Bombay. The Postgraduate Programme in Industrial design (Product design) was started. And our first class commenced on 1 Jan 1970.
1974-1978
The focus started shifting from 'social issue' to 'industrial problems ' in the mid seventies. The growth in awareness was matched by a growth in resources. IDC grew both intellectually and physically.
Master of Design - M,Des - a two year programme was started from the academic year starting July 1979. An award of UNDP funds to IDC, was a feather in the cap. This assistance broadened IDC's açtivities.
The focus started shifting from outwards to inwards: a "back to our own roots" search for an identity blended in our own ethos.
