Brief Summary:
Goals:
1. To develop course materials and the human and physical infrastructure to deliver high quality education to large numbers of working professionals in industry.

2. To develop and identify new teaching technology enhanced learning (TEL) paradigms to accomplish this task.

Distinguishing Features:
   The demand for high quality technical and management education for working professionals is high and growing.
   Filling this need will make a vital contribution to Indian economic development.
  Collaboration of IITs and IIMs to bridge science and management, as well as Carnegie Mellon which has extensive experience in technology enhanced learning in the US and other countries.

Deliverables:
The first year deliverables will include:
   Establishment of a Distance Education Cell at each of the Institutes (can be part or extension of Educational Technology Cell).
   Establishment of a National Distance Education Cell to coordinate the overall distance education program of all the institutes.
   Identification and Development of course material for IT, Software Engineering and Manufacturing sectors, in Technology & Management
   Development of a plan to implement distance education in selected sites. The plan will include choice of delivery, names of lead faculty members for each location of sites, and method of evaluation.
  Conference of participating faculty and outside experts

Second Year deliverables:
   Implement distance education in selected sites
   Evaluation of implementation experience, including teaching methods and physical and technical infrastructure
   Conference of participating faculty and outside experts to review experiences and evaluation
   Development of criteria for vendor selection
