Purani Dilli – A Film
Guided By Prof. Mandar Rane
Just like a living being, a city draws its
character from its journey and its roots.
Purani Dilli has, for generations, represented
the glorious past of the city and
has been a witness to its journey since
the Mughals through the British rule up
till now. Many unprotected architectural
heritage sites, such as Purani Dilli, seem
endangered mostly due to the neglect of
the self–absorbed urbanized society of
the current century.
The project aims to understand the probable
reason behind the neglect and tries to
point out the increasing indifference and
superficiality in people today. The film also
attempts to reflect on the lack of identity
that the society today seems to be ailing
with. It suggests that revisiting the past
may help us reason and initiate our search
for that lost individuality, thus reaffirming
the need to preserve a historical cityscape
such as Purani Dilli.
