IDC is actively involved in the formation of the TATA CENTRE FOR DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY and the faculty and students are actively involved in the projects of the center.

FOCUS

Development of technology–driven solutions appropriate for the bottom sections of the consumer and business base, with a special focus on India, and development of human resources trained in identification of unmet technological needs, their solutions, and their placement in the market.

SCOPE AND GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE OF THE CENTRE

The Centre will develop human resources trained in technology, design and entrepreneurship. It will conduct research and offer academic exposure in technology and design to graduate students, by operating as a horizontal academic entity within IIT Bombay.

Apart from involving faculty and students from other academic disciplines, the Centre may have its own full–time faculty members. The Centre may also recruitvisiting faculty members (on non–tenure full–time or adjunct basis), post–doctoral researchers (including those serving as faculty members in other institutions) and research assistants as per standard procedure.

The Centre will also offer continuing education courses for working professionals covering different stages of the innovation process, such as design, intellectual property, scaling of technology and products, commercialisation, etc.

The Centre will have a three–pronged activity structure comprising research, academic and administrative activities

METHODOLOGY

The Centre shall harness the ready talent pool at IIT Bombay across disciplines in engineering, management, humanities and design. Such collaboration will engender cross–disciplinary scrutiny and critiquing in the larger interest of the project and build enhanced research and development capabilities.
