Heritage Resources for Indian Migrants in Singapore Guide: Prof. Prof. Ravi Poovaiah Theng Yin Leng In a rapidly globalised world, the patterns of migration and social relationships that migrants share are changing fast. People are redefining their perception of social and cultural constraints and the contexts which guide the way they lead their lives. Taking the Indian diaspora in Singapore as a case study of international migration, I was able to understand the motivation, process and problems faced by these migrants. Analysing the profile of the migrants gave insights into the way they perceive, interact and communicate with a foreign space and how they define their identities in a new socio-economic-cultural structure. Listening to the stories of migrants, particularly related to their families and communities imparted an understanding in the development and encouragement of heritage preservation. |
