Bicycle Design for an Executive Urban Commuter
Guide : Prof. B.K. Chakravarthy
A considerable proportion of urban population depends on non motorized modes for transportation. However, the only cyclists we see in the city are workmen like newspaper sellers, milkmen and labourers, most of whom use it as a means of regular travel as well. In India, cycling is ‘a poor man's transport’ - this is the mindset I would like to challenge. Thus, the target group I focused on was the higher middle class and above income segment, where bicycles are not used as a means of short distance daily travel. The aim is to encourage this segment to shift to human powered ways of transport thus setting up an example for the aspiring middle income group, thereby promoting human powered mobility solutions for its various benefits for the urban setup. |
