'The Gift' - Exploring Framed Narrative Structure of Storytelling
Guide: Prof. Nina Sabnani
'The Gift' is a token of love from a grandfather to his grandchild. The grandfather is a storyteller who tells stories through book sculptures. He makes a magical book for his grandson so that the child never misses him or cries when he is not around. The film consists of three sub-stories that are inter-linked in a manner that one story leads into another bringing forth the story within a story concept. The medium used in each of the sub-stories is distinct and characterises each of them. The film was an attempt to learn about different narrative styles and helped to understand the nuances of storytelling. This film gave me an opportunity to explore framed narrative structure for storytelling which had fascinated me for a long time.
