The aim of the project is to design an efficient text input method for Devanagari script, for touch screen mobile devices.

The input method is based on the structure of this script and it uses slide or tap interactions for text input. The consonants are grouped phonetically. The consonants, vowels, matras and other diacritical symbols are arranged in layers to ease steps and reduce errors. Using this design, text input in Devanagari was found to be faster and more efficient. The input method is very easy to learn and use; and after repeated use, it will enable the user to become an expert.
