Mobility based ICT module for schools in villages

The design is in the area of Affordable computing essentially in a rural context . The aim of the project was to design a mobility based ICT (Information and communication technology) product to cater to the currently unattended but essential need of computer education in rural schools. A through contextual inquiry was done in the rural areas of Usmanabad and Nasik district The output of the project is a mobile, modular, foldable computing device; an instructor could carry four of such devices around on two-wheeler, travel to different schools across the villages and impart computer training to fulfill their curriculum needs as well as making it affordable by the mere act of sharing it between schools that cant afford a computer as well as a trained instructor.

The products USPs are:
• An ICT module, consisting of computing unit with Internet access
• Allows sitting on the floor
• No need of separate furniture
• Can be assembled with standard hardware available in the market
• Targeting the aspiring individual entrepreneurs in the village itself for self-employment and propagation of IT in rural India.


 

 

How people live and the objects that surround them

This was a research project. A detailed ethnographic study was carried out in villages in to find out how people live, what objects they posses, the cultural aspects, the architecture of the place, their living patterns. Also the study probed into detailed understanding of the objects/products they posses, their buying patterns, brands awareness and consciousness, their attitude towards these objects, their affordability, their aspirations from the products, their aspirations from their coming generations and their life goals as well.



 

 


LG Corporate Design Centre, LG Electronics India Ltd.

An exposure to a Corporate Design Methodology.
At LG the main project undertaken was the design of an integrated TV stand in steel for the new LG Ballad 29 in. Flat Television. A study of existing products of the competitors in the market was done to come up with differentiation through design.
Apart from this, other projects like POP graphics for LG Home Theater system and front panel graphics for LG MyPC were handled during the training.
