About
CEED:
CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) is an all India examination
conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT, Bombay),
on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department
of Education, Government of India.
The examination tests the candidates for visual perception ability,
drawing skills, design aptitude and communication skills.
CEED is a qualifying examination for admission to Post Graduate M.Des.
programmes at the Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay; IDDC, IIT Delhi;
CPMD, IISc Bangalore; design Programme, IIT Kanpur.
In addition to CEED, candidates also have to fulfill other requirements
such as tests & interviews of the respective institutions for admission.

Before you Apply:
You must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the
following undergraduate studies by July (in the year of joining).
. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent in any branch
. Bachelor's degree in Architecture or equivalent
. Bachelor’s Degree in Design
. Interior Design Professional diploma of CEPT (5 year program)
. BFA (professional course in Applied Art/ Fine Art) GD Art (5 year
professional program)
. Professional Diploma of NID
. Masters Degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications with a minimum of
55% marks (50% for SC/ST) and good potentials and aptitude for design.
. Candidates having 5-year GD Art Degree / Diploma after 10th standard need to have either completed 12th standard examination or have additional one year of working experience.
. Must have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades (5.5/10.0 or 2.2/4.0) at Bachelor's Degree/Diploma or Professional courses / Diploma (Minimum 5-year duration) in engineering / Architecture / Design / Fine Arts
There is no age limit and you can take CEED any number of times. A fixed
number of assistantships, based on merit, are available to pursue the
programmes. Additional candidates if granted admission will have to
organize for finance/ sponsorships on their own.

Examination Date and Time:
Usually end January - beginning of February, 9:30a.m. - 12:30p.m.

Structure of the Examination:
CEED examination will consist of two parts. First part would test your
drawing skills, aesthetic sensibility, creativity, problem identification
and your approach to visual and product design. The second part will
be mainly objective type which will test your skills in visualization,
creativity, design and general awareness, and comprehension.

Before the examination:
The admit card will be mailed to you by the end of December - first
week of January.
Report to your examination center by 9.00 A.M half an hour before the
start of the examination. The examination will be from 9.30 AM to 12.30
PM without any break. Please note that most of the centers are located
outside the main city and you may have to walk a good distance from
the campus main gate to reach the venue of the exam. The seating arrangement
will be displayed on the notice board.
Please bring your own pencils of different grades (e.g. H, HB, 2B, 4B,
6B etc). Sketch pens, poster colors, and other drawing materials for
the examination. Drawing paper will be provided.
No text book or guide book preparations are necessary to appear in CEED.
You can however polish up your drawings and rendering skills.

After the examination:
CEED results will be mailed only to those who qualify. The results will
be mailed by the beginning of April. Result of the examination will
be indicated as a percentile score.
CEED qualification score is valid for a period of two years.
CEED qualification score of final year students is valid subject to
completion of all the academic requirements of qualifying degree by
July.
Duplicate cards are normally issued. Should you require a duplicate
card for a valid reason, send an application to GATE Chairman enclosed
a crossed demand draft of 150/- (Rs. One hundred and fifty only) drawn
in favor of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay payable at Mumbai.

Applying for admission to various programmes:
Qualifying in CEED does not guarantee admission in any way. You will
have to again apply to respective IIT's, IISc for admission along with
your CEED score .
The announcement for admission to the M.Des Programme will appear along
with other Post graduate programmes of Indian Institute of Technology
Bombay and Delhi, IISc Bangalore and University of Roorkee sometime
in February / March / April in all leading newspapers. Applicants will
be called for interview in May - June to appear for a test followed
by an interview. No fares or allowances are paid for this trip. Admissions
are finalized within a week after the interviews.
Information on the programmes may be obtained from the websites of the
respective institutes. Candidates are encouraged to visit respective
IITs and IISc and meet the students and Faculty of the design centers
to discuss the programme details.
Reservation for various categories will be taken care of as per Govt.
of India rules at the time of admission.
