Apply for admission to PhD at IDC, IIT Bombay

It is advisable that you go through our research areas and domains. You are encouraged to contact individual faculty memebers to disuss your research interests before applying.

Candidates applying to IDC are required to submit a 500 word Statement of Purpose along with a 1500 word proposal that should specify (a) research area (b) brief review of literature and (c) methodology. The candidates have also to  submit a recent work or paper related to their area of research.

In some cases, a valid CEED score is nessecary for applying to our Phd Program. (please refer to eligibility)

After your application Forms have been screened, you will be called for a Presentation and interview.

Candidates called for written test/interview should bring with them (i) Photo ID Card, (ii) Printed   copy   of   the   application   submitted   online,   (iii)   Thesis   /   dissertation   /   report   / publications  (iv) copy  of certificates and marksheets. All dates will be announced on the IITB Website.


M.Des. / M.Arch. / M.Tech. / M.Phil. (2year degree) / MFA / Postgraduate Diploma in Design of NID, Ahmedabad and equivalent degree with First Class or 60% marks (55% marks of SC/ST) as specified in the General Eligibility Criterion.

B.Des. / B.Arch. / BFA/ MA/Msc /Undergraduate Diploma in Design of NID, Ahmedabad or equivalent degree with First Class or 60% marks (55% marks of SC/ST) as specified in the General Eligibility Criterion and with exceptionally outstanding design related work. Such candidates should have valid CEED score. Candidates with a minimum  three years  of relevant professional experience without CEED score can also be considered, but will not be eligible for  TA/TAP/RA/RAP.

Postgraduate students may pursue their Phd as part time or full time students. The eligibility criteria for both categories are as listed below:

Full Time Students:
Students who have done postgraduate (M.Des) from IIT's & IISc or PGDPD from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and equivalent programs in design are eligible to apply.

Part Time Students:
In addition to the above qualifications the Part Time Students should have a minimum 2 Years experience in consultancy, Industry or academia.
