Important
Dates
Last
date for submission of Application Forms: the application can be submitted
anytime till the month of May for the Autumn Semester (July - November) and till the month of November for the Spring Semester (January - April)
Date
of Admission presentation and interview at IDC, IIT Bombay will be held during the months of June and December every year.
Announcement
of results is on third week June and third week December.
The
next date for registration and commencement of Ph D programme is the beginning of next semester - either in July end or beginning of January.
Admissions
to Ph D programme in Design
The
following are the steps for admission to the Ph D programme in Design:
For admissions,
1.
You'll need to have the requisite
qualifications and
2.
Pass the All India Common Entrance Examination
for Design (CEED), conducted in many parts of the country (only graduate
students need to pass CEED and not post graduate students)
3.
Apply for Ph D using Application
Form and qualify through the IDC

For
Post Graduate Entry Students:
Eligibility
for Admission:
Full Time Students:
Students who have done postgraduate (M.Des) from IIT's & IISc or PGDPD from
National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and equivalent programs in design
are eligible to apply.
OR
B.DES/B.Arch/BFA/MA/MSc/Under graduate Diploma in Design of NID or equivalent degree with exceptionally outstanding design related work with a valid CEED score. Candidate with a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience without CEED scores can also be considered. However such candidates will not be awarded Teaching Assistantship/Research Assistantship.
Part Time Students:
In addition to the above qualifications the Part Time Students should have
a minimum 2 Years experience in consultancy, Industry or academia.
Admission:
The process of admission will be as follows:

the PhD. Program.
Course Structures:
These
are the highlights of the course structure:
In the first year first semester, the student will do the course "Design
Research Methodologies".
In
the first semester, the student will do two electives in the chosen area
of specialization. One elective will be from IDC and the other from outside
departments. Each student in consultation with his faculty advisor will
finalize the elective courses independently.
In
the first and second semesters, the student will do a minor project. This
project will have a research orientation or a combination of design orientation
and research orientation. It is expected that the output of the minor project
will be published as one paper in a juried conference or journal.
In
the IInd semester (summer), the student will publish his work in the form
of a monograph.

Total credits needed for undergraduate design entry will be 56.0 credits & the courses will be common with the existing M.Des Programme.
